For me, my characters have something called a Persona. It's a non-combative ability that is formed through a character's past experiences, present needs, and future goals. Therefore no two people can have the same Persona.

Now here's where the problem lies. My MC's persona makes her a human lie detector. She developed it after she found out that her mother lied to her about Santa. You may be thinking to yourself "That doesn't sound too bad". Well...it is. At first I thought it would be cool to use as like a joke mechanic or something. But then I had to realize that it's far more than just that. It makes my MC overly competent. Combine that with her already high intellect, it's almost like she has the same knowledge as the readers themselves.

I didn't even notice this problem until one of my beta readers was like "She has no reason NOT to follow this sketchy guy back to his house in the middle of the woods. Because she knows for 100% certainty that he can actually help her."

Now I'm stuck with an MC that's smarter than a 5th grader and strong enough to fight Gods.

That sounds really frustrating! One of my major supporting characters can nullify magic and it is a huge pain in the butt. It was a constant struggle to make sure that it was consistent and logical. It also means that sometimes she's like yelling across the room to the other characters so she doesn't disrupt the action. I liked the power because it's a slightly usual one but now I understand why it's uncommon.

I regret very seriously and all the time that every character in my story has hair. It's so much freakin hair to draw, it's a pain in the butt, I should have made them all bald.

That sounds like a difficult corner to write yourself out of, but you can write around it. I have a non-zero amount of characters in my Dragonfeathers universe who are ancient, immortal beings - they've been around for hundreds of thousands of years, and are obviously extremely competent. Writing for them is hard, but I simply need to write in different challenges for them than I would a mortal character.

For instance, if I can't challenge them with a life-or-death scenario, I can have them struggle to keep the mortals around them alive. If I can't challenge them intellectually, I can challenge them emotionally and ethically, by giving them heartbreaking and difficult decisions to make. And if I can't challenge their courage, I can challenge their emotional resilience.

For your lie-detector character, perhaps instead of challenging her with decisions such as "Can I trust this person?", you could challenge her courage, her resourcefulness, and her ethics instead.

You could always add new impairments that limit her ability. Or she could have ethical remorse when "spying" / "guessing" other people's intentions. Or something could happen to her that limit or challenge this "gift" into something easier to handle for you. You literally created this world from A to Z, you merely need to do a little pirouette to turn that into something that benefits you.

Something that's turning into a real hassle is the timeline... My reader's haven't noticed it but it's something I really need to take a good look at when editing the final version, because it's hard to keep track of

Turning a one-shot novel into a comic, plus making it more actioney and character-focused, made me realize I severely underestimated how long a comic actually takes. Every new/revamped scene needs to be made in mind that it's adding a month to its runtime.

I made my protagonist a rich guy. Didn't think that since most of the story is his PoV I would need to understand how rich people think, behave, dress etc., all of which I have no idea about. So it's a lot of googling...

Someone remind me why I decided to implement several branches of the multiverse into my series? :joy:

Plot. Meaning. Mystery. Factions. Ideology. Relationships.

Shadows. Colors. Backgrounds.

Black fucking sand everywhere!!!
