What media, whether it's other books, anime, manga, cartoons, etc; inspired the current thing you're working on? What elements did you take from said media, and how did you implement it yourself?

For me, I was very heavily inspired by the manga/anime series Vinland Saga. Amongst others, but this series started the whole "What if the one behind your parents' deaths took you in as a child, and you spent your entire life trying to get revenge or break free of them?" I really enjoyed the relationship between Thorfinn and Askeladd, so I wanted to try to work with that with my own characters!

Please, tell me about what inspired you!

The plays of William Shakespeare, the poetry of Homer, Virgil, Catullus and Horace, classic British children’s novels, and a whole bunch of other books.

X-men comics. How they're really a soap opera dressed like a super hero comic.

Shonen battle manga, especially Hunter x Hunter, for their action and aesthetic.

and finally melodramatic teen drama shows like The OC, Skins, Veronica Mars.

Secret forbidden knowledge: Niji Chikara was inspired pretty much directly from Powerpuff Girls Z, which was an anime adaptation of one of my childhood favorite cartoons, and my first introduction to the magical girl genre. It was pretty polarizing at the time for its very derivative take on the characters (obviously the original Powerpuff Girls weren't magical girls), but I enjoyed it quite a bit. I also obviously enjoyed the general premise of "mysterious dark energy turns people into monsters," because I ended up using a similar premise in Niji Chikara, lol.

Anyway, shortly after discovering PPGZ, I stumbled upon somebody's (no idea who) animation of their OC doing a magical girl transformation. I was getting into animation at around that time, so I was immediately like "Oh! I can do that!" and came up with some OCs that I thought would just be for that one animation and nothing else. And now here I am 16 years later obsessing over them OOPS

Other inspirations include Sailor Moon (obviously), and Sleepless Domain (very good webcomic!)

I absolutely loved PPGZ when it came out! I'm still waiting for Tom Kenny, Tara Strong, etc. to reprise their roles in the US English Dub!...

I remember there used to be a small community of people on YouTube making magical girl henshin videos. I was a big fan of Lottie Chan who even made an episode of her anime even though it was only 8 minutes. I tried making my own, but I didn't understand where to get audio from so they are silent.

While not necessarily my inspiration for my current comic, my anime art style did evolve from PreCure since at the time I was watching Yes! PreCure 5 and wanted to draw my own magical girl team

For Elsie, many of the works of HG Wells like War of the Worlds and The Time Machine. Mainly my love for historical costume and period dramas and Jane Austen. But I think the biggest influence was Murdoch Mysteries. I mean come on. It’s a great show!

For Cracking Eggs, Psych was a big influence on the comic. But nothing can top Psych!

'Realms of the Fallen' was inspired from D&D/Pathfinder, Undertale, Legend of Zelda, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Skyrim, Wings of Fire, My Hero Academia, The Prince by Machiavelli and Macbeth.

Breaking Bad as I was watching it when I started re-writing my story(2018)
and re-watching the show rn i can definitely see that i inadvertently took some story beats

Videogames - mostly
Action, Horror & RPGS like Metal Gear, Devil May Cry, Dead Space, Resident Evil, God Of War, GTA , Infamous. Little Nightmares, Final Fantasy 15
Fighting games - Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter
Horror movies like : The Thing, Evil Dead, Ring, Paranormal Activity, Afflicted, As Above So Below etc

It was a project that started as a videogame meant to be a mix of horrifying virus meets superhuman combat. The player had a flu that instantly turned npcs into horrid monsters that will devour you on sight. Player's goal was to rescue survivors from the already infected, without infecting them too. The player developed symptoms that granted the ability to manipulate states of matter, and a fighting chance!
This remains the mechanic of the comic.

As a comic there's flexibility to stray away from a fixed set of game rules. Eg. While the game would have been 3rd person, the comic has scenes that imitate a FPS game via Owen's 'distance view' ability. The comic is meant to feel like you're watching stills from an Action Horror videogame, with transitions into Game Menu Screens with Chara profiles, Inventory, Fanart and Reader Shout outs.

Horror inspired: fear of the unknown, building mystery, tension and dramatic lighting. The virus and related symptoms (powers) are mysterious and unfold overtime, there is curiosity and fear of accidentally infecting others. Everyone seems suspicious, there are other 'carriers' of the virus out there and not all have good intentions.

For Frostpeak West,

Some of the characters (not all) are inspired by ones in Naruto. The reason why characters have fangs is due to Hiten from Inuyasha, which I know makes no sense but they were originally inspired by a demon not vampires. Ken’s design was inspired by Momotaro.

The school setting was inspired by the Simpsons and Class of 3000. These shows gave more depth and character development to the teachers/staff.

Wild Nights, Hot and Crazy Days was inspired by real life. Finding Daecon's Way was inspired by childhood dreams. The inspiration to turn both thoughts into reality came from right here on Tapas. Just seeing so many people creating stuff lit the fire under my arse to start creating my own stuff.

A good combination of Berserk,Elden Ring,Bleach,Naruto,D-Grayman,Wheel of Time (tv show) Star Wars
