The are not villainess even though the tiles says it is about a villainess?

First off, am I misunderstanding the word?? Does it not mean villainess? Does it mean something else?

If not than why are so many stories being mislabelled? Why the false advertising?

The word villainess gets people to read the stories, because that's what's popular. I think people might be trying to clickbait T-T

I believe I may be of service in this matter. The main reason for the main villainess not being a traditional villainess is because the plot itself falls into the whole isekai trope. Isekai means "otherworld" in Japanese. Meaning that the story takes place in a realm that is different from our own, meaning the main character has the right to choice their own path. With this, the Villainess titles, in most case's, the main character is put into the position where they have a chance to change things for the better, or just try not to die along the way.

How does that make them a villainess though?

Also a lot of the titles I'm thinking of they're really not doing anything like that... they are just isekaied and pretty much falling for the first or second guy they see x.x nothing very more complicated than that.

Sorry for the confusion on my part, this is a genuine question and not a troll, cause I feel like I'm being falsely advertised to with most of the stories I've been checking out as someone told me to 'give the villainess titles a try, I love stories from the villains point of view and I think you will too' but didn't recommend me any specific titles because 'they are easy to find there are so many to choose from', but all the ones I have checked out so far have no villainess in them despite it being in the title.

Actually I can probably use this thread to get recommendations for villainess stories that ACTUALLY HAVE VILLAINESS in them and not just click bait in the title.

So if anyone have any they like I would appreciate it.

Trends . . .

Usually it's someone fairly normal gets isekai'd into the body of a villainess and then decides to, you know, not be a jerk. If you are looking for a villain's perspective, then those stories do not meet the criteria. Tapas also has a number of tyrants that are not all that tyrannical. I haven't found a story on Tapas where the lead is an outright, irredeemable villain.

Because it's popular right now, majority of stories i saw ( to be honest it isn't a lot) are just someone gets reborn ,decides not to kill/oppose mc, maybe run away (like FAR away) and tries to be normal/average person, i think authors don't want to write villainess as mc but they want "fame", so they just pick trope of someone being isekai'd as villainess and just put "normal" mc

No, you are right, villainess shouldn't be someone who would just agree with plot ( they are usually reborn in some kind of novel), like this way she is just side character, not antagonist

I mean, if you wanted to stretch, it's potentially because Overlord but genderswapped and then otomed. And if you want to get really deep, it's worth noting the games these isekai-ed girls end up are often more likely to be based on otomes/dating sims the jrpgs/mmorpgs, and as we know when it comes to romance, any girl who isn't the MC, the "you go girl" best friend and in some games the single lesbian option, they're all evil for the very reason that they exist and want to steal you man! No matter which man you pick and never mind you've got an abundance of them. And if you wanted to give these stories credit, there's an argument it's commentary on that, the villainess is a villainess by simply existing no matter how normal she is just because she's a girl in the game's MC's way. And I suppose it's worth noting that a lot of villains never see themselves as the villain and if we saw things from their side we might not consider them villains either. And I certainly don't think to count as a villain you need to be outright irredeemably evil, in fact some of the most interesting villains are also nice people and that's what makes them interesting, however, I do agree they should at least do something villainous by the stories standards.

Ooooor maybe I thought too much on that and the real answer if because trends and light novel trends and a lot of light novels are based on isekai-ing the most normal person you could find so the reader can project themselves onto them.

In my headcanon, all those villanesses are the same character, who does different things. So one day she is retiting, and the day after she adopts a baby, and so on.
Also the tyrants are all the same Tyrant, who now has a secretary, daughter, sister, wife, second-wife, step-mom...
