For some reason, I'm personally not bothered when people send you a private message "Hey can you check out my comic?", some people don't like it but I really don't mind. BUT this is just rude. Not care at all for the comic and just write a comment to promote their stuff. Your subs are there to watch your content, it is disrespectful for them too. I would never subscribe o someone who does that.
It is like walking into a restaurant and tell people there "Hey stop eating here, come to my own restaurant".

True, the best is to ignore because your own readers are not even likely to click on their spam.

At least that one offered something in exchange jajajaja. Still is unbecoming to do that.

It's so insensitive and disrespectful. I don't get it, these kinds of people CLEARLY understand how important it is to have an audience for their comic, yet they're willing to completely ignore other peoples' content and use their comic for self gain.
PMing random people or posting on their wall, sure, ok. That kind of advertising is more hardcore and become a little annoying after a while, but commenting on someone else's hard work telling their readers to check out their OWN, I hate seeing that kind of stuff. It's just rude

Unrelated... But is it just me or people fron Webtoon are kind of lacking in attitude, due to the audience is bigger that the bigger chance of shitty people being there too?
I never encountered such behavior in Tapas, even though I think that kind of behavior is mildly annoying and easily resolved.

By the way, the first comment of my comic there literally is:
"Which is better, this comic or 'another one'?"
Like what the hell does that mean?

Those kinds of comments are rude and disrespectful. Person commenting came to someone's content and all they cared about is to promote their stuff in the most annoying way possible. I delete those comments if it's possible, when someone posts something like that on my anything. PMs and posting on someone's wall is a little annoying, but I'm okay with that.

Sucks that Webtoon doesn't allow to delete comments. Hope that this person won't do something like that again.

I don't use Webtoon, but I've read on this forum A LOT of stories about people being rude there. But I guess you're right about this being related to the audience size.

Unfortunately the report button is just for show. It does absolutely nothing. Only thing you could really do with webtoon comments would be to downvote them so they end up at the bottom unseen (which really only works when you have tonnes of comments)

Used to see this everywhere on Patreon when I was checking out people's content, lol. This one person in particular was spamming everyone's art with the same comment.

"Nice draw. Pls check out my patreon I love your support <3"

Oh gosh, this reminds me of Behance (a design portfolio website) where 85% of the comments are like, “Great stuff! Check out my profile to see my works!”

Anyone who comments stuff like this in any website automatically gets a “No thanks, bye” from me. :joy:

I agree that it is not very nice. I admit that I sometimes advertise my webcomic, but only when the thread is all about that. I don't hijack. That's low class and it's off putting. If there isn't a policy, there should be one.

advertising is okay as long as it`s in the right space and time. The difference between an ad and spam is timing.

I asked him to stop and now he's made another snarky comment. It's a shame.

No rules.... maybe just ignore and think of it as a compliment; they think you're big enough and cool enough to use as a place to advertise.

That's how I started to think of it when "sub4sub" and "look at my page!" started popping up around my stuff.

*dramatic turn * That's all I am to them *dramatic sobs *

I don't think there's any official rules against this sort of thing, it's just rude.

I haven't had any comments like this myself yet. But I did get a DM here on tapas that was very similar near the beginning of the month. Sad thing was their comic was decent and I might have subscribed if they'd sent sent me a messages saying they liked my comic and mentioned that they also had one but the way they went about offering to swap subs put a really bad taste in my mouth. I was polite in my response but I find these kinds of messages insulting.

I feel like it may be kind of counterproductive too? It makes other artists first impression of you as being a rude person, and if you want to make a career of this being liked by your peers is extremely helpful.

There's no rules against it I believe, fortunately you should be able to delete it. Don't respond, because they usually get defensive and go full troll on you, just delete it. That's how I usually deal with them. Unless it's not really self advertisement and it's a reader linking another comic they read because it relates to a comment or a page, I honestly don't have issues with ALL advertisement, just intrusive advertisement that has nothing to do with your comic.

I think one of the worst (none bot) spam I encountered was someone that would post on my wall "Thanks for the Sub!!!" and then have a picture and link to their comic... which is, sure, okay... BUT. I never subbed to their comic. At all. I've never even seen it in my life. They were posting fake 'thx' comments on peoples walls to try and hide the fact they advertising their comic on your wall. It was fuked up.

Like I said, it's not worth arguing mate. Just let him do his thing, your audience will make their own decision. Last thing you want is someone talking about you to his own audience.

I hate this lolz. Even when posting art, people has to like, "Hey, cool art. Will you check out mine?"

Also.. I remember this one guy where whenever I update my comic here in Tapas. He goes straight to my profile and say "Cool comic, check out mine. Sub for sub please!" He done it 3 times(every update of my comic) and I later on respond them to "Please stop, you done this 3 times now. Yes I check your comic, I'm sorry but I am not interested..." and he replied back. "No, you're just an ignorant bastard."

Though I never have one on tapas, I got similar comments on instagram and wattpad before. Mostly I just replied nicely that I'm not interested with 'sub for sub', and just check their stiff briefly, and they never reply back, so I don't really care tho.

yeah they're kinda......rude. Like this one hilarious comment I got when posting my 3rd page, "I'd smash her, maybe that'll fill her up" (on Crystal) or "OMG I'm sinning so much right now!" on a non-explicit picture of 2 guys kissing :unamused:

I haven't had this happen on my comic (I have gotten private or even public message to check out their comic). This is rude and most reader will find it annoying instead of interesting. Is a link, so there is no hook (say art piece or something) so most just ignore it as spam message.

In turn it also makes creators annoyed at the person, so the less likely they'll get help from other creators O_O

Sadly is hard to manage comments in webtoons and since there is no private messaging there, there is bound to be more spam messages like this.
