hey just my five cents, having read on the site for a few weeks since the redesign--I really don't like how the subscribe button ever leaves the screen. IMO the "SUBSCRIBE" should be clear, it should be visable, (and it should look nice) and it should never, under any circumstances, leave your screen. We need these subs. I can't be having people pull up a menu to sub. Ever. Not ever. Most people will not be bothered to do it.
Most readers will just read, and then close the screen and then come back days later to this forum saying "heeyyy I was reading a comic that had x y z, does anyone know what it's called???" <--which happens, way too often.
Like if the subscribe button was in a top corner the way tumblr does it--where it just always hangs there, despite how you scroll--I feel like it would help most of us since it would encourage more follows and hopefully encourage more people to join the platform.
We are currently working infinite scrolling but do not have an updated eta at this moment. We are trying to address the memory/load time issue.
Apologies for the radio silence - we have been working on updating the website with additional fixes and and adjustments (some of which haven't been shipped yet). We will be making an additional announcement shortly about an update to the web/mobile apps along with a list of next steps for the website. We had to execute a time-sensitive server migration which has delayed some of the additional fixes. Apologies for those delays.
I'll only really be responding to product update questions - while we are reading and monitoring the responses, I feel that part of the discussion has gotten really off topic and aren't conducive to making the website better.
And for those worried, we appreciate the kind thoughts. We have been practicing safe social measures during the covid-19 situation, our entire staff is working from home for the foreseeable future, and have set up thoughtful support infrastructure to ensure both the physical and mental health of staff members. Right now, we're working on creator reach out for our premium creators to figure out what we can do to help during this time - along with helping out our part time and freelance team members.
During this time, we've been working around the clock to also prep the site and apps to better support all creators on Tapas financially for the month ahead - we'll be making an announcement around this shortly as well.
Suffice to say, this has all come at an inopportune time and the real world events that we're seeing are all unprecedented. We are committed to listening to the feedback for the website updates and implementing those in a timely fashion, while also simultaneously trying to address the aforementioned real world events and it's mental, physical and financial impact it has had on our community.
Thank you @michaelson ! I'm glad to hear that everyone is safe and look forward to the announcement!
Thank you for keeping us updated, and really glad to hear you're all safe and as mentally healthy as possible in these circumstances!
Quick question, not sure if this is the right place but i'll try anyway. I saw an ink spring sale on the app, but it doesn't seem to be on the desktop version, is that normal?
Good luck with all the fixes and new stuff you guys are working on, and stay safe!
Hey, not sure if this has been brought up or addressed, but I haven't been able to earn ink through watching ads on my computer since the website update went live.
Was the ability to earn ink through ads on your computer phased out in the new website update?
I used to be able to watch ads all the time and is how I normally earned ink, but since the update, it always just says "no free ink offers", that never used to happen and no other circumstances have changed (same wi-fi and location ect.)
I can still earn ink through watching ads on the mobile app, but not the desktop, so I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing this and if it was part of the update
No - it's still available, but I believe the desktop ads are being requested at a much higher rate than our ad providers have inventory for. We use multiple ad providers for the desktop and apps and there are times where the ad providers are unable to provide adequate inventory which is outside of our control.
Since no one else reported this issue - @michaelson, is it normal for the progress bar on ad revenue to just disappear? I'm still 30 or so away from a hundred(older picture), but a few days after the first update the bar that should be over Balance just disappeared on my dashboard. I thought the Cover update would fix it but it's still gone.
I'm glad that the staff is fine, and I hope that Tapas is able to continue work soon on fixing more things with this redesign (although, understandably, there'll probably be major delays considering the pandemic).
It's been a month now, though, and I think that a lot of the initial criticism received is still resonating - that it's unfair to creators to have had a site-wide beta test pushed on them and impact their readership. I really dislike that Tapas has become essentially a Webtoon clone, and reading on desktop is now just a chore that I'd rather not be bothered with. I think one of Tapas' biggest issues was simply that it's mobile app just wasn't that good and needed to be more intuitive, but now work towards fixing that has made the exact same problems bleed onto the desktop. Tapas had a superior desktop experience to Webtoon, which is why I preferred it for reading on desktop and preferred Webtoon for reading on mobile, and it's just disappointing to me as both a creator and a reader that random, unnecessary changes came out and haven't gone away, and are still managing to harm the user experience.
I'm not going to make this any longer, since there have already been rants -- I just want this to be my feedback made on the forum. I'm very close to graduation and would love to move towards doing comics or stories as a means of making money (especially considering I'll probably be stuck at home for a good while because of the Coronavirus), and before last month I would have readily picked Tapastic as a platform of choice for doing it. But now... I really don't enjoy being a user, and I hope a lot is done soon on making the experience not just patched and fixed but cohesive and good.
