John D Anims
Scotland workingdoodles.blogspot.co.uk/
Artist, illustrator, animator, designer and a whole bunch more. I started my first series on here called "Working Doodles" based on the doodles we all do when bored. I also post it on blogspot, facebook, tumblr and twitter for anyone looking to follow it on other places. It's been fun and I hope to follow it up with other series' in the future when I get the chance to do so.

Oh Yeah! So I started a series of drawings that are requests. The first is for someone named David. He wanted a very happy dog, I figured out why a dog would be so happy. [image]

I have a long horizontal page planned and I'm considering just rotating it 90 degrees for Tapastic. It should work fine for mobile users as when you rotate the app it doesn't adjust itself like some apps do but PC users would need to tilt their heads. Probably not the best idea for full narrative c…
I like the colours of your sunrise. [image] Sniper Raffle, the latest page from Working Doodles.
No probs, those are a few humans anyway. A lot of my characters are anthropomorphized animals, foods and objects but there are a few humans like I linked above.
Not sure how out there you want to go with the human like characters but I'll have a browse through and link the ones I think could be possibilities. Humans: Flying Ninja Robots and Puppets? Kinda humanesque Psychotic Little Bo Peep Pizza Loving Arnie Larry Gandalf's future husband A wannabe mem…
If you find any characters you like from here feel free to use them. If you do I'll let people that check my stuff out know about where it appears in your comic.
You could no doubt say my Working Doodles comic is sketchy. It may or may not be everyone's style but due to the nature of the idea behind it I try and keep it as raw looking as possible. I've had comments in the past from people wanting me to clean up the scans and make it look a little less raw bu…
I have one!
I guess it's not quite as big an event with a story driven comic, unless you were to interrupt the story part way through with a big image. Or you could always just add a little image to the bottom of your page.
So I just posted episode 50 of Working Doodles. In this episode I tried to include a little bit of everything I've done so far. What does everyone think? Has anyone else done a special episode like this on a landmark episode/issue/page/chapter/anniversary?
The market on Kickstarter proves that there's still a demand for printed books, even ones that are available for free already online. I've personally backed a few and will continue to do so. Glad to hear you had so much success at the con, the people that bought from you will probably also continu…
Yeah, you don't need your character to blurt out every aspect of their life as soon as they appear. As long as you know who your characters are the story can develop around that and IF you need to reveal something about their past you can or it can remain forever in your own head. Sometimes these id…
You have my permission to use someone from Working Doodles if you like. There's many wacky characters on there. Just let me know if/when you post the pages they appear in. If you'd rather I pick one or a few to narrow it down to then let me know.
A couple of suggestions from me just now would be …
I post my comic Working Doodles on a blogger blog, but it also has it's own Tumblr. I also have a blogger blog for non-Working Doodles related stuff that I do. Only a couple of things on there so far though. I also post Working Doodles on facebook and Twitter too. Feel free to check any of these o…
Yeah, thanks guys. That's the part I was talking about. If I was doing a more narrative driven comic I would probably title the pages like that but it doesn't really work for what I'm doing with the series I have at the moment. It was mainly for the landmark episodes such as 50 like I mentioned abov…
I was wondering if there was any way of changing the episode number on certain episodes of my series? I don't want to change the order or take any episodes out or add any episodes in, I just want to know if I'm able to change the number associated with the episodes. I have a special episode coming u…
Keeping the edges and not cleaning the scan up was a conscious design choice. If I was doing pretty much anything else I would do all that but the idea behind this series in particular is the raw nature of it and the materials I use. Just to give it the feel of a quick doodle done while at work or s…
Hey guys, apparently this is question number 1,000! Unless some have been deleted.
Just wondering if anyone has any good tips on gaining Tapastic subscribers without being too spammy on here? I've been stuck on just 15 subs on my series for over a month now. I know I can throw in links like I ju…
Cool, thanks. I have experimented a little with the numbers in the past when doing the free ads but it can be hard to figure out what's best to put in there for the results you want. I haven't ventured out into the paid ad world yet but I did just do a few ad redesigns (with more focus on graphics…
Going by @CyndiFoster's tutorials, what kind of alterations to the search criteria would be recommended when going for paid for ads?

I did your survey too. I don't think I have much more to add than what other people have already told you but I hope my responses were useful to you. I also said I wouldn't purchase one of your caricatures but I didn't mean it in a personal slight against your style as I'm just not in the market to …
I like your method. My John D Anims logo (as seen as my avatar) was created in a similar way. It's just a big ink splot I made with real ink on real paper. I figured drawing it out would look too fake and uniform and I didn't want to rip anyone elses shape off as I wanted it to be 100% my own origin…
I'm also liking the coloured pencil look. Though I also liked the mixed one at the end, added a little bit extra but maintained the same kind of feel as the full colour pencil ones.
Thanks for the info guys, some interesting information. @winglesscomic, when you say you limit it to $10 a day are your ads only up on each site for one day or do you take the 30 day option on any of the sites and include that in the $10 limit on the day you post the ad? @CyndiFoster, I've seen…
Also wondering how far my money could go. Say if I was to put $5-$10 into it how far would it potentially go to maximise output. How many ads would it get at what prices and how long would it last?
So I've used Project Wonderful for a while now on and off, getting a bunch of free ads as I don't really have a lot of disposable income at the moment to pay money for the ads and I wouldn't be getting anything back in return from visitors anyway. What I'm wondering though is if anyone has graduated…
Don't think I've used the "straighten" option before, but what I recently discovered was if you use the ruler tool to line up with an edge that you want to be parallel to the edge of the image and go to "Image, Rotate, Arbitrary" you'll find that the angle of the ruler is inserted automatically and …
As my pages are simple little single doodle sketches I update one page 3 times a week. I try to keep to the schedule of Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I only missed one day so far since I worked out the schedule and I posted that page on the Saturday instead of the Friday. If I ever do a more in dept…
It is... everything is, you can't tell what anything is because everything is the exact same shade of purple. All webcomics are coloured purple and the lines are coloured purple too, as are all text, speach bubbles and gutters. I wish they would stop remaking so many films and cut down on the numb…
You have all the time in the world to watch as many movies as you like but all the movies in the world have been destroyed by the new leader/overlord. I wish that @jmhenry had a unicorn.... made of diamonds!!
