I grew up with traditional page comics, even the early days of webcomic where at the time the big choice was between whether you did a Sunday newspaper style strip or a page. Don't get me wrong I love some of the cool things scroll can achieve, but I think the older style page needs a bit of love as more and more of the scroll format is being pushed between all the webcomic sites popping up.

So I'd like to see recommendations for page comics, maybe add a little about what you really like about them. If you do a page format comic share it as well but don't turn this thread into a sub 4 sub please.

I'd like to recommend -

The Case of the Whispering pages (or any of Ag-meade's work) for the wonderful use of traditional and digital mediums, the texture and fun use of panels.

Corvid's Eye by Hope Hjort, for the sheer stunning use of colours, sound effect, panel shenanigans and wonderful characters.

Sparks by Revel, for the sumptuous use of textures, greyscale, detail and fun characters

Mine can be found here if you enjoy fantasy / adventures with a more easy going pace.

I'll recommend @nathanKmcwilliams's Dragon Sparking for it's vivid action, and also the traditional page format

I make my comic in both formats, scroll view is here on Tapas:

and "classic format" is on ComicRage:

I also recommend Codex Black it's beautifully illustrated

and Star Cats too

Yeah I'm personally eh about the scroll format but I love the page format! Probably good ol nostalgia skewing my perception though XD

So here's my webcomic which is in the page format:

And I also really love Letters Home! It's one page one shots, but I think its a cute series

There's also this little one shot, the art is amazing, I ADORE the composition in this!

Maybe I'm weird but I find scroll format tiring (especially with longer episodes) so most of my library here is page-based comics
@Voize 's Ho[m]e

@DarkChibiShadow 's Solanaceae

(two people whose work inspired me to get back to drawing comics after stumbling across their works on tumblr :blusht:)
Anndr's Martin Mine: The Eve of a Storm

MidoriLied's The Search for Henry Jekyll

@samiluu's Black Wings

and @LordVincent's Moonshine

And naturally, all my stuff's in page format as well ;p

Here is mine traditional drawn comic

and here is my recommendation for from my sub list

Growing up reading mangas every once in a while, make traditional the format I'm most used to.
I might try to do something scroll format, but not today, so here's my traditional format comic!

NEW CHAPTER COMING TODAY IN 5 HOURS!

Throwing my hat into the ring of traditional page comics, too. I've always preferred traditional page to scroll format, because there's a certain art to arranging panels to guide the eye and frame things, and let's face it, if you ever want to get it printed, it's already in a page format. Plus I'll agree with an earlier stated sentiment: I find scroll format, especially very long episodes, kind of exhausting to read.

I also do traditional art (markers) rather than digital, so I end up with this huge, gorgeous finished pages in a portfolio.

So much love for traditional page comics! <3 Here are some of my favorites (note: comics marked with an asterisk include dark/mature content):

Blood of the Taken by Sian Mandrake (*):

In Blood & Brine by Rowan Fridley (*):

Sixth Sense by FeverFiction:

The Changelings Sister by @yondoloki (*):

In the Woods Somewhere by @Tromroan:

Moontachi Gaiden by Suncoast Ent.:

Splitting Image by @Iris-Grimoire:

An Intern's Tale by @montrasimartina:

I... don't post my comic in traditional format anymore on Tapas, but if you're curious, you can check the page version on my website or ComicFury3

I make a traditional page comic called Heaven Hunters!

Also, I just discovered this traditional page comic called MAOR today and it's absolutely stunning!

(blush) Coming from a skilled creator like you is really something. Thanks for the shout out!

This long series also has excellent work, from a very dedicated creator Respeanut.
Very fitting to be in a hard covered book.

Thank you for the shoutout, Llyrel!

I love traditional format and I've got a bunch on my library, that haven't been mentioned here, that might be interesting! A few are in between, since they increase the space between regular page panels for readability, but I feel like they very much count.

On tapas, I really enjoy "Wake of the Clash" - great superhero story

I also have a WW2-based superhero comic that's traditionally formatted on here, called "Project: Achilles".

Hello! Suppose my comic would count as this, as it's handdrawn and on comoc style pages:

Oh yes, thanks for making this thread! Good to see people still enjoy traditional style comics. I think they’re easier to do over vertical style, in my opinion.

Here’s my webcomic:

Hello! I tried to revamp my comic into a scroll format before uploading, but I guess this just does not click with me as an artist. Besides, I was heavily inspired by 18th century sequential arts (broadside ballads and prints and all), so page by page kinda felt right in terms of the mood.
Here it is, hope you like it!

Thank you so much for reading my comic and actually recommending it here on the forums! :astonished:

I also grew up on page-by-page, traditional webcomics, I appreciate how much effort goes into posting loooong updates regularly, but I can't imagine doing it scroll style!

OMG! Thanks for the shout out! Your work has been on my list to check out for like, the LONGEST time, I just need to find a night to sit down and dive in to the backlog. :hugging:

This is a fun thread! I'll put some of my personal favorites for traditional page format comics!

(The Search for Henry Jekyll is my all time favorite webcomic and a visual TREAT for folks who love paneling)

IMO, I think traditional page comics still have HUGE appeal and most of all, are really well suited for books which I think are more important than ever right now. Books give fans a way to hold the comic and not to worry about a site closing down or the ever creeping censorship of the web AND give author's a way to continue making comics, aka getting paid for comics.

I've been making printed books for a hot second now, and while I am no means an expert, if anyone wants beginner tips on how to get started printing comics, I'm always here to talk and chat. Here are some of my own books as examples: https://darkchibishadow.bigcartel.com/category/comic-books2

Thanks for the thread!

I like to add more by their great formating and professional looking series.

The art in my comic is all traditional. I'd love it if you guys checked it out!

1 month later

I recommend samiluu's Black Wings.:heart_02:

I'm a traditional artist that makes a traditional comics, they are in panel form rather than scrolling form, which might be something i was thinking about changing, but i've always love the panel form it makes it look like something from old school comics.

which is what im going for in my main series. the other series is traditional but more spaced out i was going with a graphic feel for that one.

I didn't realize there were so many traditional format comics on here! I draw all of mine in traditional format and submit to GlobalComix but then I break it up for scroll format for Tapas. I guess I figured since most people visit Tapas on their phone, it would be easier to read in scroll. Y'all got me second guessing myself, lol :weary:
