I may brows comics on occasion but clearly I’ve missed a lot but… SINCE WHEN WERE COMICS SEPARATED BY “COMMUNITY” AND “COMIC”??

It feels new and it feels off and it feels just as annoying a s the 30+nortifications for comics im not subscribed to. Like what is going on in tapas (feeling a bit like web toon, getting some familiar twangs there.) I know there was /is a distinction for paid comics and free comics, but i didn’t know they are completely separated now. Looks like a lot of manwha-esque comics are in the comic section and most of everyone else gets comminity. Which is confusing because the word “community” gives a different meaning. Like : group chat, forums, ect.

I didn’t have a CLUE that the Community section was for the comics made by indie and general creators. I think. Its weird and confusing , it gives no prior indication that ANY comics are in the community section. I can’t say “non-monitized” because im pretty sure there are plenty of community comics that are MONITIZED so what is actually the distinction? Somebody explain it to me please.

Which made looking for comics EXTRA CONFUSING because i come here for indie comics. But when I clicked on the genre type- It sent me straight to the “comics” page that didn’t have the genre label I CLICKED on. Whats going on? Most of where I click sends me to the “comic” section with the industry made comics!

They don’t have “mystery” or “sci-fi” in the “comic” section, btw. My typical genre’s. Feel some type of way about that…

What is the format and the layout of this site??? It’s like every time I come back here it gets more conveluted and irritating.

Yeah, they did that sometime in the last year, I think? Everyone's been mad about it.

Mystery and sci-fi are still there, you just have to scroll right. Super intuitive because there's no scrollbar or anything...

Webtoon and Tapas are IP generators for Korean Netflix/ Japanese anime companies. For a while they thought they could repeat Lore Olympus and sit back and let thousands of hopefuls produce their IP they could sell. It turned out it was easier to employ their own pool of artists to work in their content mills.

Currently they find Canvas and Community are cheaper to keep around than they are to shut down. There will come a financial point where they decide it's not worth it. Pushing it into the background and making it hard to find is just speeding up process.

I see. Oof , that is admittedly confusing. i am right there with them- i hate this format. It makes me wonder who designed this???

Wow, and I just added a new comic on here. If they are operating this way then I am better off not bothering with this platform. I come on tapas to read indie comics from the community, not be bombarded by copy paste comics that tapas keeps pushing on me. Tempted to delete it outright. Thank you for explaining.

Exactly. We are not the customer. We are the product. Tapas is selling our stuff AND our eyeballs to third parties.
